How Chiropractors Can Alleviate Neck Pain Like It Was Never There

During your visit, your chiropractor will carry out examinations to find the source of your pain. He or she will then ask you questions related to your current symptoms and remedies you have undergone or tried on your own. Some examples are:

  • When did the pain start?
  • What have you done for your neck pain?
  • Does the pain radiate or travel to other parts of your body?
  • Does anything reduce the pain or make it worse?

Your doctor of chiropractic will also perform a physical and neurological exam or a couple of them. In the physical exam, he or she will observe your posture, range of motion, and physical condition. This will help them in pointing out what movement causes pain. Your doctor will feel your spine, to observe its curvature and alignment, this way they are able to detect any muscle spasms present anywhere that might be the root cause for many problems.

The second checkup will be of your shoulder area. In the course of the neurological exam, your doctor will test your reflexes, muscle strength, any possible nerve changes, and pain spread. In some cases, your chiropractor might instruct you to get a few tests to help diagnose your condition. A simple x-ray can show narrowed disc space, fractures, bone spurs, or arthritis. A computerized axial tomography scan (a CT or CAT scan) or a magnetic resonance imaging test, also known as an MRI can display bulging discs and herniations. If there is even the slightest suspicion of nerve damage, then your chiropractor may instruct you to get a specific test called electromyography (an EMG). This test is done to measure how rapidly your nerves respond.

Keep in mind that specialists of chiropractic therapy are conservative care medics; their choice of treatment does not comprise of drugs or surgery even as the last resort. If your chiropractor identifies a condition outside of his scope of practice, such as neck pain or a sign of any organic disease, he or she will refer you to the concerned medical physician or specialist. He or she may also ask for consent to inform your family physician. This way they can ensure that you are receiving your chiropractic therapy and medical care in a properly coordinated manner.

Healing Neck Pain

A neck adjustment is also commonly known as cervical manipulation. It is a detailed and accurate technique applied to the joints of the neck. This is done by hand. A neck adjustment helps a great deal in improving the flexibility and mobility of your spine. It is also especially useful in restoring the range of motion. This means that it can increase movement of the adjoining muscles. Patients who undergo this treatment for neck pain at a chiropractor most normally notice a much-improved ability to turn and tilt their head. In addition to reduced pain, soreness, and stiffness.
